B.C. Class 1 Mandatory Entry-Level Training (MELT) Program
- 10 Weeks (140 Hours)
Taylor Pro College has been approved by the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC) to offer this mandatory program for drivers who wish to obtain a Class 1 Commercial BC Driver’s License. Prior to attempting their Class 1 road test, all drivers are required to successfully complete a Mandatory Entry-Level Training (MELT) program.
The (MELT) program includes practical in-yard training, behind-the-wheel driving and theory components in compliance with National Safety Code Standard 16 for entry-level training of Class 1 drivers. Safe operating practices are underscored in the MELT program in consideration of BC’s mountainous geography and the diverse road conditions found across Canada. Our ICBC Licensed Class 1 Instructors share their experience while covering topics including commercial vehicle safety, Schedule 1, hours of service and load securement in the classroom. During the in-yard training other fundamentals such as pre-trip inspection, air brake inspections and chain-up are added to students' repertoire. While learning to shift a manual non-synchronized transmission, off-tracking and professional on-highway driving skills are honed. Students will have the use of our tractor-trailer for their ICBC Class 1 road test.
