Program Description

This diploma program focuses on preparing you to effectively manage the administrative and implementation responsibilities of a wide variety of social assistance programs and services for individuals addressing addiction and post addiction strategies.

This program is intended for people who are looking for a career in social services and community support, assisting people with personal and social issues.

Upon successful completion of this program, the student will have reliably demonstrated the ability to:

  • You will gain a solid understanding of the social and community services available.
  • You will be able to describe current models of addiction and treatment including pharmacological concepts and terminology.
  • You will be able to describe addiction and recovery processes and recognize stages of change.
  • You will be able to describe and discuss key prevention strategies, assessment and screening tools, intervention and relapse plans, and withdrawal and detoxification management and safety issues.
  • You will be able to describe the issues, defining traits, intervention, and prevention issues facing high-risk populations.
  • You will be able to articulate the impact on the client-counsellor relationship with respect to cultural and diversity issues.

Admission Requirements

Basic Requirements
  • Applicants must provide a valid Govt. photo ID or birth certificate
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum Age: 19 years.
  • Mature Students (19+ without high school diploma): May be considered based on work experience, resume, transcripts, and references. An interview may be required.
English Language Proficiency Applicants must meet one of the following:
  • Minimum scores from accepted English tests (e.g., IELTS 5.5, TOEFL iBT 46, Duolingo 95, etc.).
  • Recent English proficiency test (within 2 years).
  • Proof of English-language education:
    • 2–3 years of secondary or post-secondary education completed in English in eligible countries.
    • International credentials must be recognized by WES, ICES, or IQAS.
